Nerd Bar in Paris

Of everything I encountered in France, one of the most unique places I had the opportunity to visit was a "nerd bar" in Paris. Sure, this is neither a site of great cultural importance nor historical significance, but it was unlike anything I'd ever seen before and would be a site I'd certainly suggest anyone with nerdy interests check out. The opportunity to visit this place arose because I happened to meet up with my friend and fellow Washington & Jefferson student, Michael Nemchick, who had been living in Paris since December and knew what cool spots to check out at night.

The bar was called Dernier Bar Avant La Fin Du Monde, or as it's translated, The Last Bar Before the End of the World. Because the bar only opened in August and is still fairly new, there was a 15 minute wait in the cold and snow before we were allowed inside, but the wait certainly paid off. A sign just inside the entrance instructed visitors to "deposez vos armes", or in other words leave your weapons behind, above which a cage full of iconic weapons from various video games, movies, and TV shows could be found. The bar had three different levels, all with various nerdy shows on. The main lounge was showing Star Wars.

The decorations were certainly unforgettable.
Guy Fawkes masks decorated the hallways and Game of Thrones fans had an entire room dedicated to paraphernalia from the show. Although crowded, the atmosphere was great and I had a lot of fun trying to communicate with Michael's French and non-English speaking friends. Anyone interested in a unique bar, especially those with geeky interests and who would catch all the references, would certainly find the Dernier Bar Avant La Fin Du Monde a worthwhile location to check out after a day of visiting Paris's more famous sights.
