Let'sTalk About Leeks

What is a leek? I asked myself while slicing this long green vegetable. And then I figured it out. No it wasn't a stroke of genius but rather a stroke of tears. My eyes began to burn and I almost started to cry. But chefs don't cry so I didn't. Lets take a quick look at the culprit.

So today we were making Baked Egg with Creamy Leeks. Yes, it does sound exotic and it is because it is French. I was hoping to channel Julia Child today, as I was having flashbacks the movie Julie & Julia and I think her spirit helped me become closer to the master chef I invision in my mind.

There were many steps to this leek making so what I have done for those who are enticed by this food is taken a photo of the steps. Hopefully you try this out because it is delicious.

Sautee leeks in pan with butter
Add heavy cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
Take mixture and place into ramekins.

Add whipping cream, salt, and nutmeg to the top of the egg.
Crack an egg on top of the leeks.

I had to say there were three really great parts to this leek dish. The first being chopping the leeks, second would have to be trying them after the cream was added and finally cracking the eggs on top of the ramekins.

Side note: I completely smashed an egg inside the container, I have never felt so strong. I recommend this for the non athletic.

This was the finished product.

Make sure your ramekins are in a water bath.
